One of my kendo resolutions for 2024 is to “recruit new students!”
To my surprise, today, one person showed up to visit! Although, this wasn’t due to any of my efforts…
Anyway, this is a good start in the new year for our dojo.
I’m happy that someone showed interest in our dojo and knocked on our doors.
Before the visitor showed up, there were only Sensei and me…
To be honest, I was a little worried about what kind of practice it would be with just Sensei and me today.

Surely we won’t do
1 hour kakarikeiko?
However, listening from the sidelines to Sensei talk with the visitor was a wonderful opportunity for me to hear again his thoughts and philosophy regarding kendo and practice, as the head of our dojo.

Meikyokan dojo is
blah blah blah…
While Sensei was talking to the visitor, I was reminded of important things I had almost forgotten, thinking about the intersection between my everyday life and learning kendo… and asking myself many questions in my mind.
I really felt that welcoming new students like this from time to time is a good opportunity for me to remember my beginner’s intentions and to think again about why I have continued practicing kendo for many years.

Why I am doing kendo?
It’s quite important to stop and think like this from time to time, and reflect on my relationship with kendo.
Anyway…
I will go to practice again tomorrow♪
